Huawei Ascend P7 battery test

After passing our review gauntlet it’s now time to shine a light on the Huawei Ascend P7 battery life.

The phone managed a decent endurance rating of 53 hours and we’re going to break down why. The Ascend P7 has to power a 5″ IPS LCD of 1080p resolution along with a quad-core 1.8 GHz processor with a 2,500 mAh battery – a slightly below average capacity compared to direct rivals of similar specs.
Talk time was the single best score the Huawei Ascend P7 was able to achieve. Here the smartphone went for 13:36 hours of calling, which is respectable but far from the insane above-20-hour times posted by the likes of the HTC One (M8) (20:01h), the Samsung Galaxy S5 (21:20h) or the LG G2 (25:01h), not to mention the outrageous Sony Xperia Z1 (26:53h).

The Huawei Ascend P7 managed to surf the web for 7 hours and 13 minutes on a single charge. Again a good score but not enough to impress, putting the Ascend P7 in the company of a couple of peers like the Samsung Galaxy S4 and S4 Active or the Oppo Find 7a but far behind the HTC One (M8) (9:06h), Apple iPhone 5s (9:58h) and LG G2 (11:22h).

Video playback on the Huawei Ascend P7 stood at a healthy 8:10 h – that’s a good number and will allow you to enjoy plenty of videos on the go. It doesn’t stack all that well with direct competitors like the Samsung Galaxy S5 (11:05h) or the LG G2 (11:51h). It does outperform the Sony Xperia Z1 (6:12h) or the LG Nexus 5 (6:06h), though.

When we factor-in the stand by time posted by the Huawei Ascend P7 we’re faced with a decent 53 hours of endurance – the interval you’d get between charges if you do an hour of calling, browsing and video each, daily. It’s not the best we’ve seen, not even close, but that’s not to say it’s a bad performance.

We’ve had our fair share of beastly battery scores as of late and that’s a mixture of over the top battery capacities and lots of software optimizations. The Huawei Ascend P7 sits in the middle – it’s not bad and it’s not the best – it’s good.

Microsoft has made yet another app for Android, this time a keyboard. The Microsoft Hub Keyboard looks like a simple keyboard at first but it has a few tricks up its sleeve. The keyboard has four main features. The clipboard feature shows you text you had previously copied so you can paste it with a couple of taps. The documents feature lets you login to your Office 365 account and paste the URL of the files by typing their names. The contacts feature lets you type the name of the contact and paste their details by tapping on the suggestions above. Galaxy A9 Pro international variant is now Bluetooth certified

The Samsung SM-A910F - which is alleged to be the international variant of the Galaxy A9 Pro (SM-A9100) - has now received certification from the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG), indicating an imminent launch. This comes just a few weeks after the handset (both standard and dual-SIM models) received Wi-Fi certification from the WiFi Alliance (WFA). Prior to that, the phone was spotted on India's import/export tracking website Zauba. Sadly, pricing and availability details of the Samsung SM-A910F aren't yet known. iPhone SE teardown shows hardware ranging from iPhone 5 to 6s

The Apple iPhone SE is a 6s in a 5s body, but Chipworks dug into the internals and it turns out the story is more complicated than that. It straddles multiple generations - from the iPhone 5 selfie camera to the iPhone 6s chipset, a whopping four generations. The Apple A9 chipset is brand new and the SK Hynix-made LPDDR4 2GB memory matches the 6s as well. The NFC, audio chips and motion sensor are from that generation as well. The storage appears to be from the 6s as well, but an earlier 19nm chip instead of the 15nm being shipped now. The Qualcomm modem from the earlier iPhone 6 model while the touchscreen controller goes back to the iPhone 5s. 12.2-inch version of the Lenovo Yoga Book with Android shows up at Amazon priced at just $299.99

At IFA last year, Lenovo turned some heads with its Yoga Book, a 2-in-1 laptop / tablet hybrid that doesn't have an actual physical keyboard. Instead, its so-called Halo Keyboard is flat and doubles as a writing surface, complete with predictive input and autocorrect functionality. So far the Yoga Book has been available with a 10.2-inch 1080p touchscreen, running either Windows or Android. A model with Chrome OS on board is coming this year, but also a bigger one too. While the Chrome OS Yoga Book has been confirmed by Lenovo already, a 12.2-inch Yoga Book has been listed by Amazon without any proper official introduction. HTC One (M8) for Windows now available on Amazon for $50

Verizon's HTC One (M8) for Windows is now available for purchase at Amazon US. It costs just $49.99 with a two-year contract. You can get the contract-free (but Verizon-branded) model for $599.99. The smartphone went official a week ago as a Verizon exclusive. Its hardware absolutely identical with its Android-powered sibling - the HTC One (M8) flagship, but runs on Windows Phone 8.1. As we already know n the HTC One (M8) for Windows will be a limited time exclusive, as AT&T has already confirmed it will be selling it later this year. Today various reports suggest the phone is coming to T-Mobile and Sprint, too.
