LG’s new G Pad 7.0 gets pictured

The LG G Pad 7.0, the smallest in the new series of tablets announced by the Korean company at the MedPi trade show earlier this month, has been pictured in France.

The new hands-on images highlight some odd design choices for LG’s tablet lineup, including a relatively thick waistline and an oddly placed microSD slot on the top of the device.
The G Pad 7.0 will have no metal elements like its G Pad 8.3 predecessor, and will instead be plastic throughout. Also the speaker located around the bottom of the back could end up getting covered by your hands or another surface.

Previous leaks have revealed that at least the smallest member of the new G Pad family will be markedly underwhelming when it comes to specs. A 1280 x 800 pixel display and Snapdragon 400 processor, alongside 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage are a far cry from the 1920 x 1200 pixel display and quad-core Snapdragon 600 CPU found on the G Pad 8.3.
Color variants include black, white, and blue. Here’s hoping that the new G Pad 8.0 and 10.1 variants will have a bit more under the hood.

BeatsPill+ is the first Beats speaker post Apple acquisition

You can't be a part of Apple and not have a Plus model, Beats Electronics will testify. The first product out of the company after the acquisition is the BeatsPill+ wireless speaker. Sporting an updated design compared to the Pill 2.0, the new model keeps the shape of its namesake, but has the controls on a flat top plate and the drivers firing forward instead of up at an angle. 63mm high, the Pill+ is 17mm taller than the Pill 2.0, and it's also 2cm longer. That doesn't prepare you for the 745g of heft - the thing is 2.4 times heavier than the 2.0. The stereo speaker has a 2-way crossover for a total of four drivers. The Pill+ connects wirelessly via Bluetooth, and if you pair it with a phone, you could use its speakerphone function. You can sync a couple of Pill-pluses and have each play a separate channel, or just have both pump out the same signal for more bang. Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) to be sold stateside by AT&T, Verizon, and US Cellular

The first member of the Galaxy J (2017) series from Samsung has technically already been launched in the US. We're talking about the Galaxy J3 Emerge for Sprint and its prepaid brands, which is nothing but a rebranded and slightly modified version of the still-unofficial Galaxy J3 (2017). The next phone in that family to get a release stateside seems to be the Galaxy J7 (2017), which has recently been certified by the FCC. One of the models that underwent the certification is clearly headed to Verizon, because its model number is SM-J727V, and that "V" at the end always signifies handsets meant for Big Red. According to Evan Blass (a.k.a @evleaks), AT&T and US Cellular will sell the Galaxy J7 (2017) too. He's also confirmed that Verizon is getting it. Keep in mind that this list isn't final, so other carriers could get in on the J7 (2017) action too in the future. Nokia X and XL benchmarks

Nokia X is a brand new platform but its app store felt acceptably full, considering it launched just a couple of days ago. There we found a couple of the usual benchmarks we run (there’s also the browser-based SunSpider) so we decided to find out how the Nokia X and XL stack up against the competition. The Nokia X prioritizes affordability over performance, Nokia made it clear that Lumia is its top performer. Still, the Moto G offers goodies like a quad-core processor (a Cortex-A7 no less) and a 720p screen, but it’s nearly double the price. The 4.5″ Moto G starts at €170, while the 4″ Nokia X and 5″ XL are €90 and €110 respectively. Samsung Galaxy Alpha to be unveiled on August 4

The incredibly often leaked Samsung Galaxy Alpha (seen on the right in the image below) could become official a lot sooner than you may have expected, if a new rumor is to be believed. The device, which will introduce the world to the concept of Samsung using metal in an Android smartphone, is said to be announced on August 4 - that's the coming Monday, by the way. It's also earlier than the August 13 date a past rumor mentioned. This may of course have something to do with the fact that the Galaxy Note 4 will get unveiled at the beginning of September. Making the Alpha official around one month before that allows it to have the spotlight all to itself for a few weeks, after which the new Note will become the talk of the town.
