HTC One mini 2 battery test

The HTC One mini 2 boasts many hardware improvements over its predecessor – it packs a bigger 4.5″ screen, the same Snapdragon 400 chipset but with four Cortex-A7 cores, instead of two Krait ones. There’s also a bigger 2,110 mAh battery over the 1,800 mAh unit of the One mini.

The software is new as well compared to when we reviewed the HTC One mini a year ago – the HTC One mini 2 launches with the most recent Android 4.4.2 KitKat with Sense UI 6 right out of the box.
The HTC One mini 2 didn’t get a particularly promising start in the call test. It got just two minutes shy of a 10 hour stretch which is rather mediocre in this day and age. The HTC One mini got a 12:04 hours, the Motorola Moto G managed 13:41 hours, the LG G2 mini reached 18:11 hours.

Web browsing is where things deteriorated even more. Here the HTC One mini 2 got 6:33 hours of constant browsing – compared to the LG G2 mini with 11:02h, the Motorola Moto G with 9:04h and the HTC One mini 8:12 h.

Video runtime for the HTC One mini 2 stands at a measly 6:05 hours. Sure it will do for a moderately long trip on an airplane or bus but it will leave you with very little juice coming out of it. It appears that video playback is a weak point for minis, though – the HTC One mini didn’t do much better at 7:23h nor did the Moto G with 6:37h. LG however was an exception with a stellar 10:23 hours of video playback from its LG G2 mini. And while it lacks the higher 720p resolution of the HTC One mini 2, the LG G2 mini has a bigger 4.7″ display.

The HTC One mini outdid its successor HTC One mini 2 in each of our three tests but still got a lower 40 hour endurance rating (the time between charges if you perform and hour of calling, browsing and video watching daily) compared to the 50 hour one of the newer mini. And that difference comes down to stand by times where the HTC One mini 2 did far better. In comparison the Moto G has 4 hours more at 54 hours while the LG G2 mini stands tallest with an overwhelming 76 hours of endurance.

Galaxy A9 Pro international variant is now Bluetooth certified

The Samsung SM-A910F - which is alleged to be the international variant of the Galaxy A9 Pro (SM-A9100) - has now received certification from the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG), indicating an imminent launch. This comes just a few weeks after the handset (both standard and dual-SIM models) received Wi-Fi certification from the WiFi Alliance (WFA). Prior to that, the phone was spotted on India's import/export tracking website Zauba. Sadly, pricing and availability details of the Samsung SM-A910F aren't yet known. iPhone SE teardown shows hardware ranging from iPhone 5 to 6s

The Apple iPhone SE is a 6s in a 5s body, but Chipworks dug into the internals and it turns out the story is more complicated than that. It straddles multiple generations - from the iPhone 5 selfie camera to the iPhone 6s chipset, a whopping four generations. The Apple A9 chipset is brand new and the SK Hynix-made LPDDR4 2GB memory matches the 6s as well. The NFC, audio chips and motion sensor are from that generation as well. The storage appears to be from the 6s as well, but an earlier 19nm chip instead of the 15nm being shipped now. The Qualcomm modem from the earlier iPhone 6 model while the touchscreen controller goes back to the iPhone 5s. 12.2-inch version of the Lenovo Yoga Book with Android shows up at Amazon priced at just $299.99

At IFA last year, Lenovo turned some heads with its Yoga Book, a 2-in-1 laptop / tablet hybrid that doesn't have an actual physical keyboard. Instead, its so-called Halo Keyboard is flat and doubles as a writing surface, complete with predictive input and autocorrect functionality. So far the Yoga Book has been available with a 10.2-inch 1080p touchscreen, running either Windows or Android. A model with Chrome OS on board is coming this year, but also a bigger one too. While the Chrome OS Yoga Book has been confirmed by Lenovo already, a 12.2-inch Yoga Book has been listed by Amazon without any proper official introduction. It's not available yet, but it does have a price: $299.99 running Android. That's oddly cheaper than what the 10-inch Yoga Book costs with Google's OS, namely $499. HTC One (M8) for Windows now available on Amazon for $50

Verizon's HTC One (M8) for Windows is now available for purchase at Amazon US. It costs just $49.99 with a two-year contract. You can get the contract-free (but Verizon-branded) model for $599.99. The smartphone went official a week ago as a Verizon exclusive. Its hardware absolutely identical with its Android-powered sibling - the HTC One (M8) flagship, but runs on Windows Phone 8.1. As we already know n the HTC One (M8) for Windows will be a limited time exclusive, as AT&T has already confirmed it will be selling it later this year. Today various reports suggest the phone is coming to T-Mobile and Sprint, too.
