Apple releases OS X 10.9.3 update with improved 4K support

Apple has released an update to OS X Mavericks that brings the version number to 10.9.3. The update is now available to download through the Mac App Store.

One of the major changes in this update is improved support for 4K monitors. What this means is that now if you connect a 4K monitor to a compatible Mac (the 2013 Mac Pro or the 2013 MacBook Pro with Retina display) you will get the HiDPI ‘Retina’ option instead of standard 1:1 scaling. This results in sharper images but at the same time, the onscreen items are now larger and easier to see. This is similar to the way scaling works on the MacBook Pro with Retina display. Also, the 4K output now supports 60Hz refresh rate for monitors that can support it.
The other changes include:
  • Ability to sync contacts and calendars between a Mac and iOS device using a USB connection
  • Improves the reliability of VPN connections using IPsec
  • Resolves an issue that prevented Font Book from installing PostScript Type 1 fonts
  • Improves reliability of copying, editing and inspecting permissions of files on an SMB file server
  • Improves reliability of network home directories
  • Improves stability when installing configuration profiles
  • Improves login speed for users in Active Directory groups
  • Includes Safari 7.0.3

Grand Theft Auto V Dominates US Sales in September

Nintendo's 3DS wins the hardware war. The NPD Group has revealed the top ten best-selling games in the United States for the month of September, 2013. Total sales – including hardware, software, and accessories – amounted to $1.079 billion for the month, up 27 percent from the same month last year. While hardware sales were down 13 percent compared to September of 2012 -- $183.2 million in hardware was sold this month – accessories were up two percent, and software sales were up a staggering 40 percent. When console, portable, and PC games are taken together, software sales amounted to $768.6 million. Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) specs leak once again

An alleged update of Samsung's Galaxy A5 model, predictably named the A5 (2017) has been circulating the rumor mill for some time now. Rockstar Unveils New GTA V Screens, Los Santos Travelogue

12 new images of the action in Los Santos. Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto V is just a little over a month away from launch, but you can check out 12 just released screenshots right now. The images show an assortment of urban and rural areas in the sprawling Los Santos, and another look at the action from under the water. And hey, if extreme car chases aren't your thing, there's even a picture of Michael playing some tennis and apparently pointing at something. But Rockstar released more than just screenshots on Tuesday, adding a travelogue where you can explore some areas of Los Santos and Blaine County in more detail. The site is broken into categories, showing off new vehicles and explaining some of the current political climate you'll face when the game launches on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on September 17. While we already knew that Oppo's upcoming R7s smartphone will have 3GB RAM, it has now been revealed that the device will also be offered in a 4GB RAM variant.
