BlackBerry's New 5-inch Z30 Smartphone Launching Next Week

First smartphone to ship with version 10.2 of the BlackBerry 10 OS.

Today BlackBerry unveiled the Z30, which packs a considerably larger screen than the company's previous smartphones and is loaded with a new version of the BlackBerry 10 OS. Like the BlackBerry Z10 before it, the Z30 utilizes a full touchscreen display, but sports a faster processor than the company's previous keyboard-free smartphone.

The BlackBerry Z30 features a 5-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 — the Z10, on the other hand, is equipped with a 4.2-inch 1280 x 768 display, but utilizes LCD technology. Powering the new device is a dual-core 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro Processor with QuadCore Adreno 320 GPU, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of on-board storage plus MicroSD support.
BlackBerry's new phone is equipped with stereo speakers accompanied by the company's Natural Sound technology, which improves the quality of voice and video BBM chats. An 8-megapixel camera can be found on the back of the Z30, with a 2-megapixel shooter up front. Within the device is a hefty 2,880 mAh battery, which the company claims can hold a charge for up to 25 hours of mixed use.

With version 10.2 of the BlackBerry 10 OS, Z30 owners will have the ability to preview all messages and respond to BBM messages from within any app, and will be able to access to the enhanced BlackBerry Priority Hub, which learns what notifications and conversations are most important to you and organizes them accordingly.
BlackBerry 10 OS version 10.2 is scheduled to roll out to the BlackBerry Q10, Z10, and Q5 starting mid-October.
The new BlackBerry Z30 smartphone will launch next week in the UK and Middle East, with additional regions expected to get the device over the course of the next few months. Pricing has yet to be announced.
