Blizzard Wants Yearly World of Warcraft Expansions

As patches rarely manage to increase subscriber numbers.

Blizzard has confirmed it wants to release World of Warcraft expansions on a yearly basis.
Speaking to Digital Spy, lead systems designer Greg "Ghostcrawler" Street acknowledged that expansions always saw a boost in subscriber numbers, so the team were interested in bringing them out quicker.
"We find that expansions are what bring players back to World of Warcraft," he explained. "Really good patches will keep them, but they aren't as good at bringing players back to the game.
"We really want to get to a cadence where we can release expansions more quickly. Once a year I think would be a good rate. I think the best thing we can do for new players is to keep coming out with regular content updates."
This isn't hugely surprising news. While Blizzard only announced the nine-year old MMO's fifth expansion Warlords of Draenor at Blizzcon this year, the sixth expansion is apparently already in development.
Other information from this year's Blizzcon includes the news the Warcraft RTS titles could be ported to modern PCsthe first details about the upcoming movie and the official unveiling of the studio's new MOBA, Heroes of the Storm.
