Oppo Find 5 won't see Android 4.4 KitKat update

Sad news for Oppo Find 5 owners came in today, as the company confirmed it will not push an update to Android 4.4 KitKat. Qualcomm hasn't provided the hardware binaries for the Snapdragon APQ8064 chipset to run Android 4.4.

Not all is lost, however. Since ColorOS 2.0 is based on Android 4.4, developers may take advantage of it and port it on Android 4.2 base while utilizing bits and pieces of the Android 4.4 framework. We don't know if this will actually work, though and it's likely that it won't provide the expected results.
If you want to go the unofficial route, CyanogenMod provides a solution for you. There's a CM 11 Nightly build for the Oppo Find 5, which should soon graduate to a more stable version. CyanogenMod 11 is based on Android 4.4 KitKat and provides a ton of additional functionality, which other custom UIs can't offer.
