Handset shipments from Taiwan to rise to 21.95 million in Q3

DigiTimes has conducted a research on the performance of Taiwan phone manufacturers in Q3 2014. According to the data, Origina Design Manufacturers (ODM) and own-brand makers will have a blast in the June-September period.

The top five Tawain-based smartphone makers are Chi Mei Communication Systems, HTC, Compal Electronics, Arima Communications and Asus. They're expected to ship a total of 21.95 million handsets in Q3, which is a quarter-on-quarter increase of 4.2% and 32.1% on an annual basis. 85% (18.65 million) of those devices will be smartphones.
The results from the research also indicate a growing number of orders from Sony Mobile and feature phone orders from Microsoft Mobile to Taiwanese ODMs. This will benefit their business even further for a very rosy fourth quarter.
The last quarter of the year is expected to see Taiwanese handsets shipments rise by 39.3% year-over-year to 23.3 million units.
