Apple rumored to update the 15-inch MacBook Pro with a faster Haswell CPU

A new photo purportedly snapped at the Apple’s Chongqing store in China suggests the 15-inch MacBook Pro is destined to receive a small specs bump. More specifically, Apple is planning to pimp the laptop with a faster Haswell processor as well as 16GB of RAM as standard.
The good news is that the pricing won’t be affected with current prices of the laptop remaining intact. As you’d expect the 15-inch MacBook Pro will retain its three main configurations.
The new base model would offer a faster Intel Core i7 CPU clocked at 2.2GHz and 16GB of RAM. Currently, the entry-level 15″ MacBook Pro comes with a Core i7 CPU at 2.0GHz and 8GB of RAM. The second configuration offers a slight CPU frequency bump, at 2.5GHz, and 512GB PCIe SSD storage.
The two configurations are priced at CNY 14,288 and CNY 18,688 , respectively, which when converted to USD, is a bit higher than the current Apple offerings, but rumor is the US price will not be changed.
So, if you’ve decided it’s time to grab a 15″ MacBook Pro, you might want to wait just a tad longer before reaching for your wallet.

Microsoft Office Mobile for Android drops Office 365 subscription requirement

Yesterday, Microsoft finally announced the Office suite of apps for the iPad, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. But along with the new announcement, Microsoft also made a quiet change to its existing Android app. Just like its iOS counterparts, the Android version of the Office Mobile app required an Office 365 subscription to actually be used to create and edit documents. Surprisingly, Microsoft has dropped that requirement now, which means you can access the app fully without having to spend a dime. The app still only lets you create Word and Excel files, with no way to create or edit PowerPoints and all your files will be saved on your OneDrive instead of locally. Also, there isn’t really a version optimized for Android tablets yet. Still, it’s a free app so you can’t complain much about it.

Samsung releases Gear 2 and Gear Fit SDK

Samsung Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo went official just three days ago, running on a Tizen-based OS. This time around though Samsung has confirmed both smartwatches will support third-party apps. The lack of third-party apps was a major drawback on the first Gear watch and we are happy to see Samsung is changing its strategy. So, just as promised at the announcement, the SDK for the Gear 2 duo is now live. Even better, the SDK also supports the Tizen-based Galaxy Fit band, so it will also welcome third-party apps once it hits the shelves. Finally, Samsung is launching another SDK for the S-Health services. Both SDK kits are now available for download on Samsung’s Developer Portal.

Huawei is still only giving us teasing glances at the new Ascend Mate 7 but we have leaked photos of the upcoming phablet to gawk at. The latest batch featrues "in the wild" photos rather than the photos taken by TENAA during the certification process. Huawei Ascend Mate 7 photos The Huawei Ascend Mate 7 is the third generation and while the first two were mid-rangers, this one sits higher up with a 6" 1080p screen, a 13MP / 1080p camera and a Kirin 920 chipset (octa-core CPU, Mali-T625MP4 GPU).
