Samsung Gear S3 classic LTE escapes South Korea, is on its way to AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon

A couple of months ago an LTE-capable version of Samsung's Gear S3 classic smartwatch surfaced in its home country of South Korea as an exclusive to one of the carriers over there. Fast forward to today, and this model is now officially announced for international markets. That includes the US, as you'd expect, where the new Gear S3 classic LTE will be sold by AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon.
So far if you were outside of Korea and wanted LTE connectivity from your Gear S3, you had to pick the sporty-looking frontier version, but that's no longer the case. Now lovers of the classic's more understated design can have their cake and eat it too.
The Gear S3 classic LTE is unsurprisingly a Gear S3 classic with LTE added. Thus it features a 1.3-inch 360x360 circular AMOLED touchscreen, and it's powered by a 1 GHz dual-core CPU, aided by 768MB of RAM. You get 4GB of storage, as well as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, NFC and MST for Samsung Pay, and GPS. The watch's sensors include a heart rate monitor, accelerometer, gyro, barometer, and one for ambient light. The device runs Tizen, and has a 380 mAh battery. It's IP68 water and dust resistant.

Microsoft Office Mobile for Android drops Office 365 subscription requirement

Yesterday, Microsoft finally announced the Office suite of apps for the iPad, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. But along with the new announcement, Microsoft also made a quiet change to its existing Android app. Just like its iOS counterparts, the Android version of the Office Mobile app required an Office 365 subscription to actually be used to create and edit documents. Surprisingly, Microsoft has dropped that requirement now, which means you can access the app fully without having to spend a dime. The app still only lets you create Word and Excel files, with no way to create or edit PowerPoints and all your files will be saved on your OneDrive instead of locally. Also, there isn’t really a version optimized for Android tablets yet. Still, it’s a free app so you can’t complain much about it.

Samsung releases Gear 2 and Gear Fit SDK

Samsung Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo went official just three days ago, running on a Tizen-based OS. This time around though Samsung has confirmed both smartwatches will support third-party apps. The lack of third-party apps was a major drawback on the first Gear watch and we are happy to see Samsung is changing its strategy. So, just as promised at the announcement, the SDK for the Gear 2 duo is now live. Even better, the SDK also supports the Tizen-based Galaxy Fit band, so it will also welcome third-party apps once it hits the shelves. Finally, Samsung is launching another SDK for the S-Health services. Both SDK kits are now available for download on Samsung’s Developer Portal.

Huawei is still only giving us teasing glances at the new Ascend Mate 7 but we have leaked photos of the upcoming phablet to gawk at. The latest batch featrues "in the wild" photos rather than the photos taken by TENAA during the certification process. Huawei Ascend Mate 7 photos The Huawei Ascend Mate 7 is the third generation and while the first two were mid-rangers, this one sits higher up with a 6" 1080p screen, a 13MP / 1080p camera and a Kirin 920 chipset (octa-core CPU, Mali-T625MP4 GPU).
