Original Samsung Galaxy A5 is getting Android 7.0 Nougat update in January

Samsung is obviously working on getting final, stable Android 7.0 Nougat updates for its flagship devices out as soon as possible - in fact there have already been several beta releases for the Galaxy S7. But what about the mid-rangers? At the beginning of the month we heard that the entire Galaxy A (2016) line would in fact be graced with the ability to taste the sweet treat, even if a timeline for the rollout wasn't shared.
That's perhaps to be expected, but what about a member of the original A series? Namely, the Galaxy A5 from 2014. You probably wouldn't hold your breath expecting this model to receive a Nougat update, would you?
Well, too bad, because that's exactly what's going to happen. Optus, an Australian carrier, has confirmed that the update to Nougat for the A5 units it's sold is currently in testing, and if everything goes well it's expected to roll out in late January.
The Galaxy A5 launched running Android 4.4 KitKat, and it's already been bumped up to Lollipop and then Marshmallow. So if this actually happens, the original A5 will be one of the longest-supported Samsung smartphones ever. Hopefully the Nougat update won't be limited to Australia and will make its way across the globe, if not in January, then in February and the months coming after that.

NSA is able to install spyware on all iPhones

A leaked NSA document proves that the agency is capable of easily deploying spyware on all iPhones and can have access to user data including SMS messages, contacts, and even a user's location by utilizing cell tower information. What's even scarier is that the NSA can remotely access an iPhone's camera and microphone that is infected with the spyware. According to the leaked intel, the initiative, named DROPOUT JEEP, began in October of 2008. The document delineates that the NSA would need physical access to the device in order to install the software, which doesn't sound too bad. However, the German Magazine, Der Spiegel, which also published the DROPOUT JEEP data, believes that the NSA rerouted shipments of brand new iPhones before they went out to consumers to install the spyware. Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 to come with new design, flexible display

The Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 smartwatch has been rumored to come out in tandem with the Galaxy S5. Now a new publication in a Korean media, which claims to be in touch with Samsung insiders, the new generation smartwatch will be announced in March or April. The announcement is likely to happen in London, probably at an Unpacked event. The insider also claims that Samsung has felt the need to radically change the design of the upcoming Gear. The overhaul will include a new, flexible OLED display. Additionally, the report says that Samsung has gone to quite the extremes and has changed all the parts that look “dull or boring.” Previous rumors have hinted that the Gear 2 might be 15-20% thinner than the first generation. 10,000 Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact owners can test drive Android Marshmallow

This way for the Marshmallow trial. Sony's Concept for Android initiative will allow 10,000 Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact owners to beta test Android's new major version. The new software is built on feedback Sony received from the initiative launched earlier this year. If you want in, you'll have to check in with the Concept Sign-up app . G4 bootloops are caused by hardware issue, LG vows to repair affected units

Many owners of the LG G4 have complained about a bootloop issue, but so far without receiving any assistance whatsoever from the Korean smartphone maker. Well, that's finally changed. LG has now acknowledged the bootloop issue, and after a thorough investigation has concluded that a hardware problem is to blame. Specifically, the bootloops are caused by a "loose contact between components". The company has vowed to fix the problem for affected devices, with no additional cost for its customers of course.
