Upcoming Xiaomi Mi 5c to cost $144, leak reveals

The Xiaomi Mi 5c (codename Meri) that was leaked in some live images back in October is getting closer to launch, it seems. That's because today a new leak out of China tells us how much it will cost, and the amount is very good news for fans of Xiaomi's legendary affordability.
According to what is purported to be a leaked poster talking up the handset's pre-sale, the Mi 5c will cost just CNY 999 - that's $144 or €136 at today's exchange rates. This makes it half the price of the Mi 5s, but that's to be expected given what the Mi 5c's rumored specs are.
Like the iPhone 5c from a few years ago, the Xiaomi Mi 5c will be the lowest-end of the Mi 5 offerings. It's said to sport a chipset with an octa-core processor, possibly MediaTek's Helio P20. It will be aided by 3GB of RAM and 64GB of storage in one configuration, though the entry-level one could come with less of both. It should launch with MIUI 8 on top of Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and apparently may get announced at a special event next month.
