New Surface Pro 3 update is aimed at improving battery life

Microsoft has started rolling out a new update to Surface Pro 3 devices. The update bring along several changes, including improvements related to battery life, keyboard, and fingerprint sensor.
Here's the official change-log for the update:
Surface Pro System Aggregator Firmware
  • v3.9.850.0 increases battery life during sleep mode and improves keyboard stability.
Surface Pro UEFI
  • v3.11.1450.0 improves system sleep and hibernation behavior when battery level is low.
Surface Fingerprint Sensor
  • v2.2.10.8 increases finger print touch stability coming out of sleep.
Surface Pen Settings
  • v11.0.311.0 enhances pen setting driver stability.
It's worth mentioning that many users of the 2-in-1 detachable have been complaining about battery life-related problems recently. Possibly, the update fixes those issues as well.

Android N Developer Preview now available on Sony Xperia Z3

Android N is yet to be officially named later this year, but it was already detailed last month. It offers multi-window (split-screen) multitasking, improved Doze mode, better notification handling among others. The Android N Developer Preview was seeded to Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus Player, and Pixel C in early March. The Preview even saw its first firmware update in mid-March. Verizon's Galaxy S5 camera plagued by bugs

Verizon's early adopters of Samsung's latest Galaxy S5 flagship are having some trouble with their devices. Many are reporting their camera refuses to work after a few days. The error message just says "Warning: Camera failed". There is no fix to be found. The users tried everything Verizon has suggested them to do - software and hardware factory resets, wiping caches from recovery, etc. Nothing works so far. The unlucky owners are having their devices replaced, but there is no guarantee this won't happen again. There is even a Galaxy Note 3 on Verizon affected by the same problem already. Hopefully this issue is resolved quickly by a firmware update. Meanwhile we advise Verizon's Galaxy S5 users to stay away from third-party camera apps such as Instagram, Shapchat, Facebook, etc. because some users are reporting the problem started after installing and using such an app.

Sony Shows A Profit, But Hardware Sales Are Soft

Then again, software sales are booming. Today, Sony released its first quarter financial results for the period running from April 1, 2013 to June 30, 2013. Things continue to look up for the once-struggling company, as it again managed to post a quarterly profit, albeit a modest one. ...the company’s profit after taxes amounts to about $35 million. During the quarter, Sony’s company-wide sales brought in $17.3 billion, which is a 13 percent increase from the same quarter last year. “This increase was primarily due to the favorable impact of foreign exchange rates,” however, as well as “an increase in financial services revenue, and an increase in unit sales of smartphones.” If currency exchange rates remained consistent over the last year, sales actually would have decreased three percent. Tomb Raider Next-Gen Sequel Confirmed

It's "well into development" too. Square Enix has confirmed it is working on a Tomb Raider sequel for the next generation of consoles. In an open letter , the company's Western CEO Phil Rogers confirmed that a sequel has been in development for some time. "I am also excited to reveal that we are well into development on a next-generation Tomb Raider sequel – something you may have heard about recently," he wrote. A sequel was pretty much guaranteed considering the game's success. We heard at Comic-Con this year that Dark Horse comics were producing a series set after the conclusion of the first game and designed to lead into the eventual follow-up . Still, it's good to know for certain that the game is in development, that it's making good progress, and that it'll be on next-gen consoles everywhere.
