LeEco and Coolpad are working together on a high-end smartphone launching in August

When it's not buying American TV set makers, LeEco is busy purchasing controlling stakes in established Chinese smartphone manufacturers such as Coolpad. And now that the two companies have gotten closer (as LeEco holds a lot of Coolpad shares), they have also decided to collaborate on a new smartphone.
It's still unclear what this device will be called, but the result of the cooperation between LeEco and Coolpad will definitely be high-end. On the back, it will sport the ever more prevalent dual camera setup, as seen in the leaked image below which purportedly shows the phone.

It will also have a 5.5-inch QHD touchscreen, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 at the helm, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of built-in storage, and a 3,500 mAh battery. As every other flagship smartphone out of China in the past few months, this too will feature a unibody metal construction as you can see. It has a fingerprint scanner as well.
The device is expected to become official and go on sale sometime in August, so we'll surely find out more about it soon.

Microsoft Office Mobile for Android drops Office 365 subscription requirement

Yesterday, Microsoft finally announced the Office suite of apps for the iPad, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. But along with the new announcement, Microsoft also made a quiet change to its existing Android app. Just like its iOS counterparts, the Android version of the Office Mobile app required an Office 365 subscription to actually be used to create and edit documents. Surprisingly, Microsoft has dropped that requirement now, which means you can access the app fully without having to spend a dime. The app still only lets you create Word and Excel files, with no way to create or edit PowerPoints and all your files will be saved on your OneDrive instead of locally. Also, there isn’t really a version optimized for Android tablets yet. Still, it’s a free app so you can’t complain much about it.

Samsung releases Gear 2 and Gear Fit SDK

Samsung Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo went official just three days ago, running on a Tizen-based OS. This time around though Samsung has confirmed both smartwatches will support third-party apps. The lack of third-party apps was a major drawback on the first Gear watch and we are happy to see Samsung is changing its strategy. So, just as promised at the announcement, the SDK for the Gear 2 duo is now live. Even better, the SDK also supports the Tizen-based Galaxy Fit band, so it will also welcome third-party apps once it hits the shelves. Finally, Samsung is launching another SDK for the S-Health services. Both SDK kits are now available for download on Samsung’s Developer Portal.

Huawei is still only giving us teasing glances at the new Ascend Mate 7 but we have leaked photos of the upcoming phablet to gawk at. The latest batch featrues "in the wild" photos rather than the photos taken by TENAA during the certification process. Huawei Ascend Mate 7 photos The Huawei Ascend Mate 7 is the third generation and while the first two were mid-rangers, this one sits higher up with a 6" 1080p screen, a 13MP / 1080p camera and a Kirin 920 chipset (octa-core CPU, Mali-T625MP4 GPU). It has a fingerprint scanner on its metal back, a la HTC One Max. The Ascend Mate 7 will be unveiled at IFA, Huawei's event is scheduled for Thursday, September 4.
