Google says existing smartphones likely won't work with its Daydream VR platform

Has Google's new Daydream VR platform caught your fancy? Are you waiting to try it on the smartphone you own? Well, sadly, you are out of luck as Google has said that existing smartphones will "most likely" not work with the Android-powered VR platform.
"I can tell you that there will most likely not be any retroactively Daydream-ready phones," said the Mountain View, Califronia-based company's VR division head Clay Bavor.
"We want to hold a very high quality bar, and for that to happen all of the components need to be just right. So, to VR fans, I would say, hold off for a few months to get your next phone… and get a Daydream-ready phone."
It's worth mentioning that Google hasn't yet made public the exact minimum specifications that are needed for a phone to be certified as Daydream-ready.
Of all the already-available flagships, currently only the Nexus 6P is Daydream-supported, but that's only for development - there's no official word on whether or not the device would be supported once the VR platform is officially launched.
ZTE's newly-announced Axon 7 is Daydream-ready, but it's yet to go on sale.

Microsoft releases Hub Keyboard for Android

Microsoft has made yet another app for Android, this time a keyboard. The Microsoft Hub Keyboard looks like a simple keyboard at first but it has a few tricks up its sleeve. The keyboard has four main features. The clipboard feature shows you text you had previously copied so you can paste it with a couple of taps. The documents feature lets you login to your Office 365 account and paste the URL of the files by typing their names. The contacts feature lets you type the name of the contact and paste their details by tapping on the suggestions above. Lastly, there is a built-in translator, which can translate the text you're typing to any other language. That aside, the keyboard is extremely basic and does not even have autocorrect, which makes typing extremely difficult. iPhone SE teardown shows hardware ranging from iPhone 5 to 6s

The Apple iPhone SE is a 6s in a 5s body, but Chipworks dug into the internals and it turns out the story is more complicated than that. It straddles multiple generations - from the iPhone 5 selfie camera to the iPhone 6s chipset, a whopping four generations. The Apple A9 chipset is brand new and the SK Hynix-made LPDDR4 2GB memory matches the 6s as well. The NFC, audio chips and motion sensor are from that generation as well. The storage appears to be from the 6s as well, but an earlier 19nm chip instead of the 15nm being shipped now. The Qualcomm modem from the earlier iPhone 6 model while the touchscreen controller goes back to the iPhone 5s. News Samsung Galaxy S4 to support the Gear smartwatch

by October Samsung's executive vice president for marketing at the company's mobile division Lee Young-hee has revealed that the Galaxy S4 will get support for the Galaxy Gear smartwatch by the end of October. Additionally, the Galaxy Note II and Galaxy S III smartphone are also going to support the company's smartwatch. This will happen by the end of December, according to Lee Young-hee. The compatibility between the products will come as part of the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update that the trio of smartphones is bound to get. The update brings the crucial Bluetooth 4.0 LE support that the Galaxy Gear requires. The Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch will start selling in South Korea in October. 12.2-inch version of the Lenovo Yoga Book with Android shows up at Amazon priced at just $299.99

At IFA last year, Lenovo turned some heads with its Yoga Book, a 2-in-1 laptop / tablet hybrid that doesn't have an actual physical keyboard. Instead, its so-called Halo Keyboard is flat and doubles as a writing surface, complete with predictive input and autocorrect functionality. So far the Yoga Book has been available with a 10.2-inch 1080p touchscreen, running either Windows or Android. A model with Chrome OS on board is coming this year, but also a bigger one too. While the Chrome OS Yoga Book has been confirmed by Lenovo already, a 12.2-inch Yoga Book has been listed by Amazon without any proper official introduction. It's not available yet, but it does have a price: $299.99 running Android. That's oddly cheaper than what the 10-inch Yoga Book costs with Google's OS, namely $499.
