Samsung Reportedly Working on Google Glass Competitor

Device could debut later this year.

A report from The Korea Times claims Samsung is working on a Google Glass competitor, tentatively called Galaxy Glass. The Korean tech giant apparently sees the emerging "smart glass" market as growing exponentially in the future, and plans to debut its own tech eyewear later this year.

Apparently, Samsung has filed a patent for the Galaxy Glass headset with the Korea Intellectual Property Office. But Samsung also thinks similar technology could spread to other places in our daily lives. "The market potential for smart glass is huge," said a Samsung representative. "It will be used in trucks, cars and has a greater impact on related industries such as glass and coatings makers."
Galaxy Glass will have the ability to answer calls and receive other messages through a translucent display, and will connect to your smartphone.
Samsung could debut the Galaxy Glass during IFA 2014, taking place in Berlin this fall. Google has yet to announce a solid release date for its head-mounted display, but Google Glass is expected to launch sometime in 2014. An Ohio man was recently interrogated by the Department of Homeland Security for wearing Google Glass in a movie theater.
