Samsung HMD Odyssey VR headset is here to challenge the Rift

Samsung's HMD Odyssey VR headset is here and it packs dual 3.5-inch AMOLED screens, AKG headphones, two cameras for spacial awareness and two motion controllers.
The HMD Odyssey is built for Microsoft's Mixed Reality AR experience and is here to challenge the Asus and Lenovo's Mixed Reality gear.
The two screens inside the HMD Odyssey are 3.5-inch in size and pack have 1600x1440px resolution and 90/60Hz refresh rate.
There is 6-axis accelerometer, gyroscope, compass, a proximity sensor and two cameras on board so you can wander around your home without worrying you'll run into a wall. The attached AKG headphones provide 360-degree Spatial Sound.

The Samsung HMD Odyssey will become available before the end of the year in the US, China, Korea, Brazil and Hong Kong at a price of $499.

Samsung releases Gear 2 and Gear Fit SDK

Samsung Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo went official just three days ago, running on a Tizen-based OS. This time around though Samsung has confirmed both smartwatches will support third-party apps. The lack of third-party apps was a major drawback on the first Gear watch and we are happy to see Samsung is changing its strategy. So, just as promised at the announcement, the SDK for the Gear 2 duo is now live. Even better, the SDK also supports the Tizen-based Galaxy Fit band, so it will also welcome third-party apps once it hits the shelves. Finally, Samsung is launching another SDK for the S-Health services. Both SDK kits are now available for download on Samsung’s Developer Portal.

Microsoft Office Mobile for Android drops Office 365 subscription requirement

Yesterday, Microsoft finally announced the Office suite of apps for the iPad, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. But along with the new announcement, Microsoft also made a quiet change to its existing Android app. Just like its iOS counterparts, the Android version of the Office Mobile app required an Office 365 subscription to actually be used to create and edit documents. Surprisingly, Microsoft has dropped that requirement now, which means you can access the app fully without having to spend a dime. The app still only lets you create Word and Excel files, with no way to create or edit PowerPoints and all your files will be saved on your OneDrive instead of locally. Also, there isn’t really a version optimized for Android tablets yet. Still, it’s a free app so you can’t complain much about it.

The first is a theme store where users can purchase additional themes for the keyboard, including the new Star Trek theme. Second, there is now an emoji drawer, which allows you to pick and choose all the system emoji. Other than that there is also support for two new languages, improved auto-correct, and bug fixes.
