Xiaomi Mi Max to be officially unveiled on May 10

The Xiaomi Mi Max, which the company recently started teasing officially, is set to be unveiled on May 10, which is around a couple of weeks from now. This was revealed by the Chinese company in a post on Weibo.
There has been very little information available related to the device's specs all this while, but that's not the case anymore as the handset has now been spotted on bench-marking website GFXBench, revealing several of its key specs.
Although the listing confirms a whopping 6.4-inch display, other information like full HD display, and hexa-core 1.8Ghz CPU (Snapdragon 650) is contrary to what we've been hearing in rumors so far. As for the camera department, it's handled by a 16MP rear unit and a 5MP front shooter.

Microsoft Office Mobile for Android drops Office 365 subscription requirement

Yesterday, Microsoft finally announced the Office suite of apps for the iPad, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. But along with the new announcement, Microsoft also made a quiet change to its existing Android app. Just like its iOS counterparts, the Android version of the Office Mobile app required an Office 365 subscription to actually be used to create and edit documents. Surprisingly, Microsoft has dropped that requirement now, which means you can access the app fully without having to spend a dime. The app still only lets you create Word and Excel files, with no way to create or edit PowerPoints and all your files will be saved on your OneDrive instead of locally. Also, there isn’t really a version optimized for Android tablets yet. Still, it’s a free app so you can’t complain much about it.

Samsung releases Gear 2 and Gear Fit SDK

Samsung Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo went official just three days ago, running on a Tizen-based OS. This time around though Samsung has confirmed both smartwatches will support third-party apps. The lack of third-party apps was a major drawback on the first Gear watch and we are happy to see Samsung is changing its strategy. So, just as promised at the announcement, the SDK for the Gear 2 duo is now live. Even better, the SDK also supports the Tizen-based Galaxy Fit band, so it will also welcome third-party apps once it hits the shelves. Finally, Samsung is launching another SDK for the S-Health services. Both SDK kits are now available for download on Samsung’s Developer Portal.

Huawei is still only giving us teasing glances at the new Ascend Mate 7 but we have leaked photos of the upcoming phablet to gawk at. The latest batch featrues "in the wild" photos rather than the photos taken by TENAA during the certification process. Huawei Ascend Mate 7 photos The Huawei Ascend Mate 7 is the third generation and while the first two were mid-rangers, this one sits higher up with a 6" 1080p screen, a 13MP / 1080p camera and a Kirin 920 chipset (octa-core CPU, Mali-T625MP4 GPU). It has a fingerprint scanner on its metal back, a la HTC One Max. The Ascend Mate 7 will be unveiled at IFA, Huawei's event is scheduled for Thursday, September 4.
