Huawei Honor V8 spotted on TENAA with 5.7-inch display and 4GB RAM

Huawei's upcoming Honor V8 smartphone, which has been the subject of a few teasers and rumors until now, has now been spotted on the website of Chinese regulatory TENAA, revealing most of its key specifications.
Three variants of the device have been certified by the government agency: the KNT-AL10, KNT-TL10, and KNT-AL20. While the first two only differ in color options, the third variant features an upgraded processor, display, and internal memory.
Specs-wise, the KNT-AL10 and KNT-TL10 are powered by a 2.3GHz octa-core CPU and sport a 5.7-inch full HD display. RAM is 4GB, while internal memory is 32GB. A 3,400 mAh battery is there to keep the lights on.
In terms of camera, both feature a 12MP dual rear camera setup and an 8MP front shooter. Measuring 157.00 × 77.60 × 7.75 mm and weighing in at 170 gms, the devices run Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.
The KNT-AL20, on the other hand, has similar specifications, except for a 2.5GHz octa-core CPU, QHD display, and 64GB internal storage. Available color options for the Honor V8 smartphone include Gold, Silver, and Rose Gold. The phone will become official at an event on May 10.

Microsoft Office Mobile for Android drops Office 365 subscription requirement

Yesterday, Microsoft finally announced the Office suite of apps for the iPad, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. But along with the new announcement, Microsoft also made a quiet change to its existing Android app. Just like its iOS counterparts, the Android version of the Office Mobile app required an Office 365 subscription to actually be used to create and edit documents. Surprisingly, Microsoft has dropped that requirement now, which means you can access the app fully without having to spend a dime. The app still only lets you create Word and Excel files, with no way to create or edit PowerPoints and all your files will be saved on your OneDrive instead of locally. Also, there isn’t really a version optimized for Android tablets yet. Still, it’s a free app so you can’t complain much about it.

Samsung releases Gear 2 and Gear Fit SDK

Samsung Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo went official just three days ago, running on a Tizen-based OS. This time around though Samsung has confirmed both smartwatches will support third-party apps. The lack of third-party apps was a major drawback on the first Gear watch and we are happy to see Samsung is changing its strategy. So, just as promised at the announcement, the SDK for the Gear 2 duo is now live. Even better, the SDK also supports the Tizen-based Galaxy Fit band, so it will also welcome third-party apps once it hits the shelves. Finally, Samsung is launching another SDK for the S-Health services. Both SDK kits are now available for download on Samsung’s Developer Portal.

Huawei is still only giving us teasing glances at the new Ascend Mate 7 but we have leaked photos of the upcoming phablet to gawk at. The latest batch featrues "in the wild" photos rather than the photos taken by TENAA during the certification process. Huawei Ascend Mate 7 photos The Huawei Ascend Mate 7 is the third generation and while the first two were mid-rangers, this one sits higher up with a 6" 1080p screen, a 13MP / 1080p camera and a Kirin 920 chipset (octa-core CPU, Mali-T625MP4 GPU).
