Samsung introduces three 360 wireless speakers - R1, R3 and R5

Samsung announced three new very interesting speakers - they are all 360-degree wireless standalones. The models are R1, R3 and R5 - successors of the R6 and R7.
The new generation 360 Wireless Audio speakers offer "high-quality, balanced sound, and premium table-top design that enables them to fit seamlessly into any home." They have a brand new interface for easier control.


Samsung's Multiroom App has been updated as well and supports those speakers on both Android and iOS. Finally, Samsung partnered with Qobuz and the R1, R3 and R5 supports the high-quality streaming service.
Samsung will showcase the R1, R3 and R5 at IFA in Berlin next month. They will launch in the US and EU markets in Q4 this year. The R1 is priced at $199, the R5 is set to cost $399, and the R3 is somewhere in-between - probably $299.

Samsung releases Gear 2 and Gear Fit SDK

Samsung Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo went official just three days ago, running on a Tizen-based OS. This time around though Samsung has confirmed both smartwatches will support third-party apps. The lack of third-party apps was a major drawback on the first Gear watch and we are happy to see Samsung is changing its strategy. So, just as promised at the announcement, the SDK for the Gear 2 duo is now live. Even better, the SDK also supports the Tizen-based Galaxy Fit band, so it will also welcome third-party apps once it hits the shelves. Finally, Samsung is launching another SDK for the S-Health services. Both SDK kits are now available for download on Samsung’s Developer Portal.

Microsoft Office Mobile for Android drops Office 365 subscription requirement

Yesterday, Microsoft finally announced the Office suite of apps for the iPad, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. But along with the new announcement, Microsoft also made a quiet change to its existing Android app. Just like its iOS counterparts, the Android version of the Office Mobile app required an Office 365 subscription to actually be used to create and edit documents. Surprisingly, Microsoft has dropped that requirement now, which means you can access the app fully without having to spend a dime. The app still only lets you create Word and Excel files, with no way to create or edit PowerPoints and all your files will be saved on your OneDrive instead of locally. Also, there isn’t really a version optimized for Android tablets yet. Still, it’s a free app so you can’t complain much about it.

Second, there is now an emoji drawer, which allows you to pick and choose all the system emoji. Other than that there is also support for two new languages, improved auto-correct, and bug fixes.
