Asus unveils Tinker Board - a Raspberry Pi on steroids

Asus Tinker BoardRaspberry Pi clones have cropped up from various sources but few come from established PC makers - that makes the Asus Tinker Board special. The board has essentially the same layout as the Pi, but uses the Rockchip 3288 chipset - the same as the one found in certain Asus Chromebooks and the Asus Chromebit.
Asus Tinker BoardAsus Tinker BoardThis chip is powerful enough to decode H.264 and HEVC videos all the way to 2160p @ 60fps with 10-bit support to boot. That’s well beyond the capabilities of the Raspberry, making the Asus board more suitable for a media center. Having HDMI 2.0 and Gigabit Ethernet certainly help (vs. Pi’s HDMI 1.4 and 100Mbps Ethernet).
We would have liked USB 3.0 ports, but like the Pi, the Asus Tinker Board comes with four full-size USB 2.0 ports (and one micro for power). There’s 40-pin header for hardware tinkering and it will work with Raspberry HATs (also cases, of course, the hardware layout is the same).

Asus Tinker BoardThe board officially supports Debian Linux with Kodi, but the hardware similarities mean that porting Chrome OS should be easy. Speaking of, the chipset features a quad-core Cortex-A17 processor (yes, 32-bit, unlike Pi 3, but the cores are faster), 2GB of RAM (vs. 1GB) and a UHS-I compatible microSD slot for storage. Wireless connectivity is built in as well - Wi-Fi b/g/n (2.4GHz) and Bluetooth 4.0 for connectivity.

Future Nokias may have Carl Zeiss optics, but HMD is playing coy

Long before Huawei partnered with a legendary German camera brand, Nokia put Carl Zeiss-branded lenses on its phones. A recent Tweet led people to believe that partnership will not carry over to the HMD-made phones, but now there’s a glimmer of hope. It turns out that was a mistake - the tweet only meant that the current Nokias (6, 5 and 3) do not have Zeiss optics, not that new phones definitely will not have them. Of course, that’s not the same as confirming that they will, even though the tweet ends with a tantalizing “stay tuned”. If Zeiss does partner up with Nokia/HMD, the first child of that union will likely be the upcoming powerhouse of a phone scheduled for June. Source | Via

New rumor suggests OnePlus 3T will be cheaper in China

When the OnePlus 3T was announced last week, its US and European pricing information was revealed - the device will carry $439 and $479 price tag for the 64GB and 128GB variants, respectively, in the US, while in the EU the prices will be €439 and €479, respectively. Now, a new rumor has revealed the expected price tag the handset will carry in China. According to the rumor, the 64GB variant of the phone is expected to cost RMB 2,799 (around $405), while the 128GB model will set you back RMB 3,299 (around $480). The report adds that there's a possibility that the company might bring down the price of the 128GB variant to RMB 3,199 (around $465). MIUI 8 to arrive alongside Mi Max on May 10, Xiaomi confirms

We already know that the Xiaomi Mi Max - which is said to sport a mammoth 6.4-inch FullHD display - will be unveiled on May 10. However, turns out that Xiaomi will make a couple of more announcements that day - the company has confirmed that the next major iteration of its MIUI ROM as well as the Mi Band 2 will also be unveiled on May 10. "Evolving from the first version in 2010, MIUI has served as the operating system for over 150 million across the globe," a post on MIUI forum said. "On May 10, we will introduce you MIUI 8, with the features you always wanted and new designs beyond your imagination." Flipkart teases upcoming Moto E, will go on sale on May 14

We practically know everything about the Motorola Moto E now. The company's newest Android smartphone is expected to slow below the already low-priced Moto G. Indian online retailer Flipkart, which has exclusive rights to sell the Moto G and Moto X in India, has now started teasing the Moto E on their social media accounts. The teaser images don't mention the name but the outline of the phone matches all the leaked images we have seen. Flipkart is also suggesting replacing low-end feature phones with the Moto E, indicating a very low price point. The website says '4 days to go for the new Moto', meaning the phone will go on sale on May 14, even if the actual launch is on May 13. Report: Galaxy S8's facial recognition tech will be used for mobile payments

Last week, there were reports that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 will feature facial recognition technology, which will be used to unlock the phone. Now, a new report is suggesting that the tech will be used for mobile payments as well.
