Microsoft Wallet for Windows 10 phones now supports mobile payments
Tap to pay is not an alien concept to users of iPhones or Android
handsets, and it's now finally making its way to Windows 10 phones as
well. Today Microsoft has released an entirely new version of the Wallet
app for Windows 10 Mobile, and it's available to those who are Windows
Insiders and on the Fast Ring for updates, and use a Lumia 950, 950 XL,
or 650.
So as you can see this initial launch is quite limited. But wait, there's more - no, actually, less. Mobile payments through Microsoft Wallet currently work with cards issued by the following banks: Bank of America, BECU, First Tech Federal Credit Union, People's United Bank, and Virginia Credit Union. That's it. Oh, and yes, all of those are from the United States, and yes - that means the service is US-only for now.
In the future, you should expect the app to gain support for cards
issued by Chase, Fifth Third Bank, and US Bank, but there's no telling
when exactly that will happen.
The whole thing is very easy to use thankfully, so if you're among the lucky people who can tick all of the boxes above you'll be able to make NFC payments at the stores supporting wireless transactions. The Wallet app can hold your coupons and loyalty cards too, conveniently.
It's unclear when the new Wallet app will become available for all Windows 10 Mobile users, but hopefully it will be soon.
