Razer's Blade Gaming Laptop Gets New, Ultra-Thin 14-inch Variant

The world's thinnest gaming laptop just got thinner.

Today Razer added two new products to its gaming laptop arsenal with the introduction of the 14-inch Blade and an updated version of its 17.3-inch predecessor, now dubbed the Blade Pro. The Blade and Blade Pro serve as an expansion to the ultra-thin, MacBook Pro-like gaming laptop Razer first introduced in 2011, both featuring black aluminum casing and measuring less than an inch thick.
The new 14-inch Blade is unprecedentedly thin for a gaming laptop at just 0.66-inches thick — thinner than the densest point of the MacBook Air (0.68-inches). It's powered by an unspecified 4th-generation Intel Haswell processors and Nvidia's new GTX 765M GPU with 8GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD (upgradable to 256GB or 512GB). The display is an 1600x900 resolution LED-backlit panel and can output video via a full-sized HDMI port. Wi-Fi will be provided by a Qualcomm Killer NIC N1202 802.11a/g/n chip with built-in Bluetooth 4.0 support. Unlike the 17.3-inch variant, the 14-inch Blade will not utilize Razer's SwitchBlade interface, which features an LCD-backed trackpad and 10 programmable keys. Instead, it will use a standard, centered trackpad.
The 14-inch Blade will also get a sizable weight reduction over its 6.6 pound 17.3-inch sibling, coming in at just 4.1 pounds. For context, the 13-inch MacBook Air currently weighs about 2.96 pounds and Alienware's M14x starts at 6.45 pounds. While Razer hasn't provided estimates for the Blade Pro, battery life is currently quoted at 6 hours for the Blade.
The 17.3-inch model will live on as the Blade Pro and offer a larger, higher-resolution 1080p display and the SwitchBlade UI, but will bear the same CPU, GPU, 128GB SSD, and RAM as the new 14-inch Blade. It will retain the same dimensions and weight of last year's model, at 0.88-inches thick and roughly 6.6 pounds. Both systems will ship with Windows 8 64-bit preinstalled.
The Razer Blade will start at $1,799, while the Blade Pro will receive a small price reduction over last year's model, going from an entry-level price of $2,499 to $2,199. Both models are slated to ship in Q2.
