Samsung Galaxy S8 Active receives FCC certification

Image
Samsung's been making rugged versions of its flagships for a few generations now (since the Galaxy S4 Active), and a new one is on the way. Following a Wi-Fi certification, benchmark listings, and a slip up by Netflix and one by Samsung itself, the Galaxy S8 Active has now been certified by the FCC in the US. As usual, that means piles of technical documentation with detailed measurements that only the properly motivated would sift through. For the rest of us, there's a drawing of the phone's back that details the FCC ID placement and gives a glimpse of the S8 Active's design. Though it doesn't reveal what exactly kind of outdoorsy color schemes will be available. Shaping up to be another AT&T exclusive like previous iterations, the Galaxy S8 Active should have similar specs as the US version of the plain S8, including the Snapdragon 835 chipset and 12MP primary camera. A photo was circulated more than a month ago, claiming to...

Galaxy Note FE's July 7 launch date confirmed by Korean carrier

Image
The refurbished Samsung Galaxy Note7 turned Galaxy Note FE is indeed set for a July 7 launch, just like previously reported. The confirmation came from a post by Korean carrier LG Uplus (part of LG Corporation) on Facebook, which has since been taken down. We did manage to save the picture, which, aside from the July 7 date, states there are limited quantities of the device. The post also detailed that the Note FE will be on pre-order starting today through July 6, though we admit that our Korean is a little rusty and we relied on Google Translate for that. Posters have started popping up in Korean stores, too - LG Uplus stores, in particular, now that we know what to look for - even if they don't say the exact date. Apparently, the folks in charge of social networks at the company's marketing team were a little too eager to spread the news. Source  |  Via

Motorola Moto E4 (unlocked) discounted in US already

Image
Just over a week after launching in the United States, the Motorola Moto E4 is available at discounted rates in the country. Specifically, Republic Wireless has the phone listed on its website for $99, which is $30 less than its launch price. Aside from the carrier, the handset is also being offered by Amazon and Ting, but both are selling it for $129, meaning there's no discount. Verizon, as you might already know, is also selling the phone for much less ($70 currently), but for that, you will need to pick one of carrier's prepaid plans. Source

HTC U11 was Antutu’s best performing smartphone of May 2017

Image
Antutu’s top ten best-performing smartphones of May take the average benchmark scores of all the tests run on Antutu’s benchmarking app during the entire month of May. This is the first month since the iPhone 7 Plus’ release that Apple’s fastest iOS device is no longer the fastest smartphone in the world. The HTC U11 has surpassed the iPhone 7 Plus in Antutu’s overall performance benchmark. With an average score of 180,079, the U11 is well above the iPhone 7 Plus’ average score of 174,299. Trailing behind are the Xiaomi Mi 6 in third at 172.4k points, the Galaxy S8 and S8+in fourth and fifth at around 172.3k points. From last month, the iPhone 7’s spot was over taken by the Xiaomi Mi 6 and the Galaxy S8/S8+. In fact, the iPhone 7’s average score dropped, which is a common occurrence as smartphones age and software is updated. In the iPhone 7’s situation, Antutu speculates that the reduction in UX and single-core scores for the iPhone 7 coul...

Telegram 4.1 brings improved iOS sharing experience and Android Pay support

Image
Telegram has released version 4.1 of the app for iOS and Android with a bunch of new features. On iOS, users will now get an improved experience while sharing from other apps. You can now add a comment while sharing and then share to more than one contact at once. You also get additional options when you 3D touch on the icon, including taking a picture or video and sending it to contacts without opening the app. On Android, you can now use Android Pay to pay for bot payments. The app also shows photos and videos together while sharing them through the app. Other big feature is for supergroup users. Supergroups can now have up to 10,000 users. Admins now have more granular controls, including selecting what other admins can do within the group, prevent certain users from performing certain tasks like sending messages, media, stickers, etc. within the group, and seeing what other admins have been up to in Recent Actions in the admins page. Telegram also added an option to set...
