New iPhone 5s ad – ‘Parenthood’

Image
Regardless of whether you like their products, you can’t deny Apple makes some of the best ads in the industry. Always to the point and with some emotional value, Apple videos are the Pixar movies of the ad world. The latest ad for the iPhone 5s focuses on parenthood and how people use their phone (or the iPhone 5s, in this case) for help while dealing with their kids. It’s a lovely ad as usual and more than the phone itself it showcases the wide variety of apps that are available for it, which has been a recurring theme of all their recent iPhone and iPad ads. You can check out the new video below.

Native folder support likely coming to Windows Phone 8.1

Image
Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform, which decided to forego separating its applications into folders as part of its “Metro” UI, is apparently willing to reconsider this decision. Information has surfaced that an upcoming WP8.1 update will add this functionality, which will create a folder tile that can have an unspecified number of apps shortcuts inside. Microsoft had initially listed this in a support article, apparently by accident as it has since been pulled ( cached version here ). Otherwise, creating folders will apparently be as easy as it is on iOS and Android – dragging a tile on top of another tile will create a folder, which can then be named and populated with other app shortcuts. The added functionality is expected to show up in an eventual Windows Phone 8.1 update – ie. an update to WP8.1, rather than WP8.1 itself. It is expected to offer similar folder to what Nokia did with its Lumia Black update earlier this year. Speaking of Windows Phone 8.1, the ...

Samsung is testing a Galaxy S5 running Tizen

Image
Samsung finally made its first ever smartphone running Tizen official at the beginning of this month. That said, the Samsung Z may not be the only Tizen-powered handset to arrive from the Korean behemoth this year. According to an Indian import tracking website, three units of a Galaxy S5 model running Tizen have recently made it to Samsung for testing purposes. Now this may be nothing, or it may signify that Samsung is getting ready to release a variation of the Galaxy S5 that comes with Tizen preinstalled. The price of each testing unit of this Tizen-running Galaxy S5 is said to be INR 54,404, which is a lot - around $905, to be exact. But that could be lowered if such a device is ever going to be sold. Other details aren't available yet. And unless more information about the Galaxy S5 with Tizen gets leaked, you probably shouldn't view this as certainly coming to market. Compared to the Samsung Z, the Galaxy S5 has a bigger and more pixel-packed ...

OnePlus One is the first smartphone to record in DCI 4K, check it out in action

Image
4K video recording has started to become a staple feature of all the flagship Android smartphone these days. But the version of 4K that these phones record in is the UHD resolution, or the ones used by 4K televisions, and is exactly four times the resolution of full HD. But there is another version of 4K and that is DCI 4K, which is what the professional cinema cameras use while recording in 4K. The difference here is the added width; whereas UHD is 3840×2160, DCI 4K is 4096×2160. But while several smartphones record in UHD, the OnePlus One is the first to record in DCI 4K. What we have below is a sample video shot by Danny Winget. The video is stabilized using a tripod so you don’t get any of the usual shakiness that we see in smartphone videos, allowing you to concentrate on the quality of the video. And from what I can tell, the video looks gorgeous. Not only is it extremely high resolution, more than any other smartphone camera, but things like dynamic ...

Doutzen Kroes promotes the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Gear Fit in a pool

Image
Samsung has launched a new advertising campaign in the Netherlands today, and the Korean company is using well known Dutch model Doutzen Kroes to get its point across. The model stars in a photo shoot in a pool, where she’s seen using the Galaxy S5 smartphone as well as the Gear Fit wristband . Both of these are water resistant, so that’s not out of the ordinary. What’s slightly odd, though, is that Doutzen Kroes is also caught in one of the shots using a pair of Samsung Level headphones in the pool – which doesn’t seem like a great idea to us. So maybe Samsung’s gone just a bit overboard with its ‘water resistant’ theme here, since the Level On headphones are not friends with water, no matter how much Kroes would like them to be. Anyway, the Dutch model says she likes the S5 + Gear Fit duo because of the easy to use fitness features they have. She likes that the devices offer an individually tailored experience, and she uses them as her personal fitness trainer...
